Our story

A family kitchen that grew into an institution.

Buraq opened on Blackpool Road in 2005. Two decades on it is still run by the same family, still grinding its own spice blends, and still cooking every dish to order rather than to a clock.

The recipes have been tuned year after year — a little more heat here, a slower simmer there — using spices sourced from across the subcontinent. That patience is what the English Curry Awards judges recognised when they named us the best restaurant in the North West.

The tandoor

Clay oven, charcoal, four hundred degrees.

Our tandoori sizzlers come out of a traditional clay oven and land on the table still spitting — lamb chops, shashlik, king prawn, mixed grill — with fried onions, curry sauce and salad.

The breads come from the same oven: blistered naans brushed with butter, keema naan, peshwari, and gluten-free naan if you tell us when you order.

What people say

Over a thousand reviews. Here are a few.

Great curries with proper flavour, served hot and well cooked. The giant naan bread was a great addition and also tasty. Staff were very attentive and professional.

Second time we've been to Buraq and the service and food is always exceptional. Last time we came here I was heavily pregnant and ended up feeling poorly midway through our meal and the staff were amazing.
